Hakomi Workshop

Tapping the Intelligence of the Body: A Somatic Approach to Psychotherapy

A two-and-a-half-day workshop with Jules Morgaine Certified Trainer

WELLINGTON, NZ: Fri 26 Nov—Sun 28 Nov 2021

Psychological development and the associated neural connections begin in-utero and continue via the early formative experiences the child receives. These experiences are absorbed into cellular memory and imprinted in the nervous system. The social engagement system is set up and forms the imprints for later emotional relating with life itself.

As this process begins in the stage of pre-cognition there is later seldom any narrative or ‘remembered’ story that can help make sense of who we are and why we respond to the world in the way we do. Hence the limitation therapists and clients often experience in using techniques of traditional ‘talk therapy’. Through the skilful use of present moment experience in the body it becomes possible to gain access to this information. Further, interventions that support new experiences are absorbed neurally and somatically thus enabling an expansion of limiting patterns towards more rich and life-giving responses to the vicissitudes of life.

This workshop will include:

  • skills for the use of Mindfulness as a means of accessing early formative experiences held in the body
  • experiential processes that enable integration and meaning making
  • the reparative therapeutic use of relationship to regulate and update neural processing via somatic experience
  • pertinent theoretical constructs will be explored

This workshop will be based in an experiential format. As such participants can expect to develop their repertoire of skills for working psychotherapeutically with early formative experiences.  It will also be appropriate for those wishing to further understand their own life patterns and create change in limiting core-beliefs.

This workshop is suitable for those wishing to experience the Hakomi method. It meets the pre-requisite workshop attendance requirement for undertaking the Hakomi Training beginning in April 2022.
